It’s been
almost a month since it happened, and still I can’t wipe it away from my mind.
On 29 December the Brothers of the community went to spend two days retreat and
rest to the Taizé Brothers house in Mymensingh. There appeared the boy that you
see in the picture. Srabon is his name, 20 years old, belonging to one of the ethnic
minorities on Chittagong Hill Tracks, Buddhist. We learned that he had had
problems with his family and he had been expelled from his village. I started
talking with him; he was the personified sadness. I concentrated on making him
laugh or, at least, smile, and I got it after a good while, as reflected in the
photo. The next day, once our retreat completed, we went back to Pirgacha. What
was not my surprise when arriving at my house, I found Srabon sitting at my
door, barefoot. He had sold his shirt and his shoes to pay the bus ticket until
Pirgacha. I try to make him see that he must return to his village and try to
reconcile with his family. I try to give him money for the return. "I do
not want your money, I want to stay with you, because you have treated me well
and I am comfortable with you," he said. What to do. I discuss the matter
with George and Homrich, the parish priest. “You cannot stay here, this is not
the solution, you have to go back and resolve your problem”. So again I speak
with the boy, and try to convince him. Srabon realizes that he cannot stay,
although is difficult for him to accept. I give him money, I put him in a bus
and he left. I still have in mind the expression of infinite sadness on his
face when the bus was leaving. I don't know what has happened to him. Probably I
will never see him again. I don't even know if I did well or not sending him
back. Perhaps he never returned home and is now rolling out anywhere in Dhaka.
Perhaps he just wanted to cheat on us, as someone suggested at that time. I do
not know, I really do not know. Forgive me, Lord, if I did wrong. And above
all, take care of Srabon.

¿"Quizás solo quería aprovecharse de nosotros"? ¿Qué clase de razonamiento es ese? ¿Miedo?

Tranquilo, Eugenio. Y gracias.
